A Place to Discover & Express

The Tir-na-nOg Theatre School offers an intensive and unique experience in the Theatre Arts, encouraging individual development of creative expression while nurturing cooperation and a sense of group accomplishment. The discipline of theatre, integrating as it does separate art forms into a single focus of activity, offers an effective vehicle for education in its most basic sense (from the Latin root ‘educare’: to lead forth). The Purpose of the School is to draw out the individual abilities of each student and, in an environment both supportive and exciting, to bring these skills to the creative adventure of self-discovery. It is to this adventure that the Tir-na-nOg Theatre School is committed.

Rooted in Community Since 1988

The Tir-na-nOg Theatre School was established in 1988 in response to the effervescent enthusiasm, imagination and spirit of Bowen Island youngsters. The School provides year-round courses in Theatre Arts education for young people, with a Laban-based approach to classical stage training. Its annual Youth Festival of Plays ~ a month long celebration featuring the work of students in performance, ranging from Shakespeare and the Classics to original works and adaptations ~ is presented both to the community and local schools. The annual Yuletide Story Feast, Playwright Challenge, Students as Volunteers Initiative (S.A.V.I.) and Tir-na-nOg’s Repertory Company offer further opportunities for experience and self-discovery through adventures in the Theatre Arts.

As the mists of ancient Irish legend would sometimes drift aside to reveal the mysterious island of Tir-na-nOg, Land of the Ever-Young, where before had been only empty sea, so too the Tir-na-nOg Theatre School appears in view once more, bringing again the magic of Live Theatre to the young and the young-at-heart on our very own Emerald Isle.

Rent The Space

Tir-na-nOg Theatre School offers a welcoming and versatile space for rehearsals, workshops, performances, and community gatherings. Rooted in creativity and collaboration, our space has supported decades of artistic exploration and expression on Bowen Island.

We welcome rentals from both the local community and off-island organizations, including artists, musicians, and creative groups seeking an inspiring place to gather and create.

Tir-na-nÓg deepened my love of stories and storytelling at an early age - a part of myself I lost and have only recently reconnected with. I’m now living and studying in Ireland, and when I first moved here, I stumbled across a café called Tir-na-nÓg. In an instant, I was catapulted back to memories of that special space Jack and Julie created on Rivendell Dr. I’ve since heard of the old Irish stories behind Tir-na- nÓg, the land of the young, and I think the experience of reliving those childhood memories is proof of that kind of immortality. I’m so grateful to have had those experiences growing up, and I hope Jack and Julie know how much of an impact they’ve had on me, and on so many others.
